Posting Pictures

I found this interesting picture on the following blog page http://embworkshop.wordpress.com/2007/03/28/a-creative-writing-activities/
I believe that it is quite a good stimulus for a vocabulary or comprehansion lesson, if it were posted on a blog. Images are such a great way to engage students and get them talking and writing and one such as this, would certainly draw some attention.
Use of images on blogs to teach comprehension for example, can provide appropriate external stimuli to attract attention and draw interest and very importantly motivate students to read and express themselves. The teacher, in this case, guides the student to discovery of the principles he/she wishes to teach.

  1. Well, Syndy if the picture grabbed my attention, I could imagine the impact it would have on the students. Indeed, the picture is a great talking point. With pictures, teachers can have the student discuss main idea, predictions can be made, activities in description can be engaged in if dealing with a lesson on adjectives. A story can be written. There is much potential with the use of pictures.

  2. Pictures can be used as a precursor to what is to come next, it can certainly be an excellent introduction but please be careful of certain types of pictures. We have 'very' adventurous students that might try certain clips/pictures to get the attention they so desire. 'Pictures usually tell a thousand words.'

  3. This picture certaintly got my attention (notice the use of the rule of thirds)and definitely pictures should be used as stimulas not only for reading but also for writing. Do you know the for English A @ CXC students are given a choice of a picture as one of their options for writing an essay. Yea, that's so.
